What excites you about your profession?

A project you’re proud of?

I am proud of all the problems that I have solved. It might never be visible to the user, but as a developer, I would appreciate the clean and documented code. I view code as a form of structured artwork and a clean code base and file structure is the pinnacle of development.

I cannot really specify the best I have done since I always do my best and spend my free time thinking of better solutions and implementing it in my free time or just doing refactor work. I can, however, categorize some sites but may not mention it due to NDA.

My role:

Lately my role has shifted to a more “Medic” role. I get called into projects to fix client relations, project deadlines, custom integrations and generally oversee and support the teams of developers working on the project and bounce between multiple projects daily. Generally, I handle the complete dev and tech site for the majority of my projects or I am highly involved in it. I also handle design reviews and suggestions with SEO implementation in mind.

Most overly complex and frustrating site:

It is a golf record-keeping site that is built so poorly that I am surprised that it even runs. It has been through so many agencies and freelancers over the years, but has remained in my hands for the last 4 years, due to me being the only person willing to bash my head against the table and work on it. It is the worst build I have ever seen. Fortunately, I have maintained and updated the fully custom web application with full knowledge and access of the 3rd Party API and client is really happy to have me involved in all aspects of their online application and presence.

Note: The original developers said that they didn’t want to work on the system anymore (^_^)

Most optimized website:

Dumont It is averaging at 96 – 98% on Pagespeed Insights. However, those speeds are only available on sites that were fully created by me due to my nature to optimize the site from the foundational level.

Custom Animations:

I suppose the Kubus site probably fits this type of category. It isn’t super complex, but it works. I have done so many micro-interactions, custom effects and functionality across the board that it is hard to choose 1 since I have forgotten about so many of them.

Favorite custom build:

I built a tennis court booking system that is being used by 17 clubs and even my friends since they are avid tennis players. It started off really rocky without a scope and just evolved from there. I am not currently maintaining it as it was given to another dev due to time constraints, however I am still there as a advisor and implement any features that the other dev cannot manage(Mid level dev).

Favorite personal project:

This would definitely be my Script Kiddie site. Dev and updates on it has unfortunately stopped due to time constraints, but it took months to gather and summarize the information into it and I learned a couple new things on the way. It was basically my dumping ground for re-usable code and knowledge base. It was also written as a PWA so I could quickly reference any documentation or functions when talking to dev friends.

After working on 100+(I just stopped counting) sites in my career. It is very hard to pinpoint a favorite since they were all interesting at the time.

Are you an introvert or extrovert?

That is a good question. I am fine being alone and working in darkness, but I can also talk your ear off about random things.

I don’t think there is a middle ground, but I would have to say that I might be more introverted due to social events not being a regular occurrence in my schedule.

Hobbies:

I love anime, coding and gaming(in moderation (^_^) )

I am a very calm and happy person. I like to help people and I am very good at explaining technical jargon to non-technical people using analogies and situations. I take pride in my work and coding is not just a career for me, it is also a passion and hobby. I love creating functionality and making things work while keeping the user experience in mind.
